For my altered reality I really wanted to focus on mirrors and and the possibility of there being an altered reality on the other side of the glass. When I think of mirrors, I always think of how you can see some of your deepest fears, or insecurities when you look in at yourself. From this I wanted to play off of mirrors and fear without quite literally having a fear portrayed inside a mirror. This is why I decided to create a dystopia within the mirror, in which people were trapped inside of. Each environment which someone is stuck in is not ideal, yet not overly dramaticisized to leave it up to the viewer to come up with a story to fit the scene. I tried to have the people I photographed show different emotions to give a range of fear, anger, hopelessness, and distress as you go from image to image.
Overall, I had a lot of fun with this assignment, the setup and trying to get the people to realistically act this out made it one of my more fun shoots in a long time.

Assignment 2 Concept
For my concept I still am trying to figure out some of the fine details and also how to execute my idea, but so far I'm thinking I want to focus on a world where you're trapped in a mirror. With this, I'm also thinking I want to incorporate different peoples fears, and the person someone being trapped in with their fears. So far, I'm just trying to think of how I can do all this without going out and buying a bunch of big mirrors..

Sketches
So the first image is a layout of the images put together (kind of). Mostly I want the first frame to be a silhouette of someones face blowing out smoke and the smoke to continue to all of the other frames. The 2nd image is a close up of the first frame and then the last image I uploaded is an overview of all of the other images put together. It will be laid out a little different so nothing is cut too wonky.
(Sorry all of the sketches are so bad by the way)
visual example
Sketchbook is being scanned now, but I found this inspirational for my concept so far minus the intense Tim Burton styling.

Alice
So I wasn't satisfied with my idea from Cinderella, and I really thought that I had too many ideas going on, none of which being great, but also being difficult to separate out and isolate. That being said I've changed my topic to Alice in Wonderland. I'm planning on really focussing on the hazy, and mysterious atmosphere that all of the characters are living in. I'm going to do more research into the individual characters. I have a basic layout for how I will keep a consistent theme throughout my 5 (or so) pieces that I plan on sketching up and building upon.

Fairy Tale Postcard
So I'm having a real difficult time finding a fairy tale that I want to focus on for my assignmet. I really want to do something dark so I started by looking for a story in which someone died or was really sick. I started focussing on some of the Classics like Snow White, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood because the Grims fairy tales are much darker than the versions we are used to.
Right now I'm leaning toward Cinderalla. A lot of the Grims version is very similar to the one we all grew up with. Cinderella's mother dies when her daugther is still very young, and the father marries shortly after. The two stepsisters that Cinderella acquires are very cruel to her both verbally and physically, and along with their mothers help make her life a living hell. When the prince holds a festival to find a wife, Cinderella is told that she can not attend due to the fact that she has no proper clothes to wear. One element of this story that I am going to focus on is that Cinderella often visits her mothers grave to cry and pray and talk to the spirit of her mother. When asked by her father as to what gift she would like from a journey of his she says a branch so that she can plant it at her mothers grave. She does so and a beautiful hazelnut tree grows.
As I've mentioned I'm going to focus on the darker elements of this story that aren't really mentioned in the Disney classic. One of which being the sisters cutting off parts of their feet in order to fit into the shoes. I am also going to focus on the relationship between Cinderella and her mother, even after her death.
